EP14: Lord in thy wrath rebuke me not
A verse-anthem for SSAAB soli, SSATB chorus and organ by the early-17th-century composer John Holmes (d.1629), reconstructed from the organ scores by Ian Payne. It has some impressive SS and AA solo duet writing, and a wide-ranging solo for bass. This work, which features four sections rather than the usual three, and SSATB rather than the normal SAATB choir, is especially extended and may have been composed for a special occasion, most probably while Holmes was organist of Winchester Cathedral.
